Everything, Everything

Everything, Everything – Nicola Yoon

Yeah! It is a teenage love story. But she is differ than other teen girls. She is allergic to the world. It is a very rare disease and she hasn’t left her house in seventeen years. It’s a form of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency and commonly called as, “bubble baby disease”. Anything can trigger her sickness, even it can be chemical of a cleaner, perfume or exotic spice in the food. Yeah! It is unbelievable, but it is so.

Who is she..?
She is Maddy. Madeline Furukawa Whittier a girl who born as half Japanese and African-American. What nice combination, oh! I can imagine how she is pretty. She is with her beloved mother and, unfortunately her father and brother has passed away from an accident. Maddy has a personal nurse. She is Carla and kind-hearted lady who loves to Maddy. Maddy attended to online school lectures and done her studies at home, because she is unable to go outside. Everyday Carla came and examined Maddy’s health condition, then Maddy is in her studies and evening she is with her mum. This is the Maddy’s daily routine. But, one day this routine has been changed.

That day, when Maddy was at the window, a new family came to next door as their neighbors. A boy who, tall, lean and wearing all black, jumped down from the truck. He is white with a pale honey tan and his face is starkly angular. This was the first time, that their eyes were met. Both Maddy and Olly are teenagers, attracted each others. Days passed and they tried to see each other through the window panes. After a while they became good online friends and shared their sorrows and joys. But they have no space to meet each other. But they found a way. It was the first kiss of Maddy’s entire life and they started to love each others. But Maddy’s mother, who was always on the lookout, vehemently opposed this and she broke all ties between Maddie and Ollie. As a loving mother, she worked hard to save her daughter’s life, both physically and mentally.

But by then, Maddy had lost 17 years of life as a girl and she no longer had the desire to experience this home prison life. She wanted to see the world she had lost so far. Because teenagers are always curious, quarrelsome, quick decision makers.
What will be the Maddy’s decision..?
Will she stay at home as usual..? I leave it to you to know all of this as you read the story.

We all had a such time period and I hope Nicola Yoon takes you back to that past in her book. She wrote the story not only using words, but also with illustrated, handwritten short notes. It was a nice effort she made to keep hooked on the book. She is so successful that she has always been close to the mind of a teenager and the mind of an adult who understands everything very well.

Though, this is a young adult romance fiction, I think that this is a must read book by parents who have teenage children. Because every parent should have a good understanding about their teenage child changes, feelings and decisions. Finally, acoording to my point of view, the author has succeeded in her very first book.
